Organic cotton
Here at Kite, we are proud that all of the cotton we use is certified organic.
Whilst many of us know that organic cotton is higher quality and more sustainable than conventional cotton, we may not know exactly why.
Read on to discover why organic cotton is better for the planet, the people who make it and for you too.
The fundamentals
Organic cotton is grown in harmony with nature without the use of dangerous, artificial chemicals and benefits the planet and its people.
It uses techniques such as crop rotation which helps nutrients naturally return to the soil, and composting which encourages growth.
Healthy soil is better at soaking up and storing water – according to Hubbub, growing organic cotton uses a whopping 91% less water than growing conventional cotton.
For the planet
Healthy, rested soil is vital to tackling the climate change challenge and creating a more sustainable and resilient ecosystem.
It improves air quality, promotes biodiversity and conserves natural resources. All things our planet needs to thrive.
In contrast, conventional cotton farming uses chemical cocktails to control pests and diseases which can contaminate the soil and water in the area.
For people
Exposure to these pesticides and insecticides can have long-term health effects for those working with them, as well as make access to uncontaminated food and clean water more difficult.
If you buy organic, you can be confident that the workers have not been exposed to harmful chemicals, as well as being treated well and paid fairly too.
Our organic cotton
We are proud to be certified by Control Union to the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS).
This accreditation is hard to achieve as a stringent set of social and environmental requirements must be met.
Independent annual audits of every part of the supply chain ensure that from field to your wardrobe, our clothes are good for the environment and the people that make them.

Certification benefits
Conventional dyeing requires a lot of water and is highly toxic. In fact, according to Fashion Capital, 80% of the chemicals used in dyes are still in our clothes after the production process.
At Kite, we only use GOTS approved dyes, so you can be sure your clothes are skin safe.
Importantly, our certification means that every single worker in our supply chain is paid a fair wage, guaranteed clean and safe working conditions, able to work hours that are not excessive, free from discrimination, harassment and violence, and none of our factories use child or forced labour.
The Kite benefits
As organic cotton plants are grown in quality conditions, the fibres are softer and stronger, resulting in a high quality end garment that will last and last.
We also receive feedback about how kind to skin our 100% organic cotton styles are. Many have found that those with sensitive skin really feel the benefits.
